RULES & FAQ

Rules

1. Respect Your Fellow Players! It's very simple, we only ask that you treat everyone here as you yourself wish to be treated-- with kindness and respect.

2. IC =/= OOC and vice-versa! Words or actions taken by characters in game do not reflect the person playing them. Things that happen over the course of the game are not meant to be taken personally, nor should OOC drama be brought into the game setting.

3. This is a Murdergame which means there is a very likely chance that your character will die. By playing in this game you’re agreeing that you’re okay with this possibility.

4. Activity! Like most short-term murdergames, Parasomnia requires a set amount of activity weekly.

Two threads between two different people, each with 10 comments from you. Please keep in mind the faster pace when you consider whether or not this is an appropriate fit for you. If something comes up unexpectedly during the course of the game, don't worry, we understand. But we ask that in the case of an emergency, please contact us as soon as possible rather than trying to scrape by or waiting to fail AC. It gives us time to work with you and decide what kind of exit you'd like to make.

5. Special Roles-- Characters may be given a special role off-screen. If you receive such a role, then please keep it secret.

6. Characters’ abilities are going to be nerfed without humanization. Passive, inherent skills will remain. Passive skills pertain to how an elf or some other such creature may normally appear or feel, natural ESP, or flight with wings to list a few examples. Active skills like magic spells, summoning weapons, or healing others, etc. will vanish. To be more precise, it will not feel like a block of their powers per se, but like they have forgotten their training, can’t remember how to activate their magic in the first place, etc. Nothing will jog their memory, though they are welcome to try anyway.

To further clarify the difference between passive and active: In order to be a passive skill, the character can have very little conscious control over it. It is generally something that happens to them or they were born with - not something that they decide to use. Of course, not ALL passive skills can be kept. If the skill in question had the character exert a very clear advantage over other characters (such as something that would prevent death, or indicates them having immortality, etc. ) It would be weakened as a side effect of dimensional travel.

7. Player Conduct. While we are all here to have fun, there are a few things you must keep in mind and that we must enforce. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in the thread being frozen as well as contact from the mods regarding the issue.

Due to the nature of murdergames, sensitive subjects may naturally come up throughout the course of the game. Please be mindful of other people's limitations when approaching these types of subjects. Consider whether or not it would be something that could potentially upset another player. If the answer is yes, label it, and make sure you communicate with all of the people involved. And always mark content warnings in your subject headers whether it's in your top-level or something that comes up later in a thread, so that people reading and tagging can avoid uncomfortable subjects. That also includes spoilers. If your canon is newer (released within the last two months), we ask that you please be courteous of other players who may be interested in the canon and not want to be spoiled. In a case where spoilers come up, please mark all major spoilers. However, we do want all players to be aware the spoilers can and may come up due to the intense nature of mudergames, and to please be amenable to them.

In general, we just ask you to use common sense when threading with one another. We want to allow people to have freedom to explore and develop their characters, but it is not acceptable to do so at the expense of other player's comfort level. Treat all sensitive subjects with care.

If you have any issues or any questions regarding what is and is not acceptable, please do not hesitate to contact us.

FAQ

1. So how big’s the game gonna be? How many are allowed for each cast?

The game will run at a maximum capacity of 40 characters and a minimum of 20. Cast caps are going to be set at six members max.

2. Is there a restriction (age, species, media, etc.) on regarding characters that can be apped?

The minimum age for characters is 16. There is a maturity clause in place for characters that are well-adjusted to horror/death themes. We will ask that you justify your choice in your application. If we feel your reasoning is insufficient we reserve the right to question or ultimately reject that choice. The minimum age for characters under the maturity clause is 14. There is, however, no restriction regarding species or media, however.

3. How long is this game expected to run?

Approximately two to three months.

4. What's this about an experiment?

The experiment, which was previously brought to a halt with the destruction of the program Aloysius-- has been resurrected unexpectedly with some interesting changes. Characters will be presented with motivations to kill-- allowing them to enter Nightmare Mode.

5. How do trials work?

Characters wake up in the dream world, where the trial begins. Characters must identify the culprit based on clues from the investigation, and then vote for who they think is the killer.

Then, after the voting concludes, there’ll be a post in the real world where the character that was voted off ( culprit/scapegoat ) will be allowed to speak their last words before they are executed in front of the group.

6. Are there any activity requirements?

Yeah, there are-
20 comments are required in total from two separate 10 comment threads. Each of these threads need to be with a different character.

7. What happens if I don’t meet activity requirements?

If you do not meet the Activity Requirements without speaking to the mods in advance, the mods will contact you with your options. In one way or another, your character will die the following week.

8. What are credits? How do I earn them?

Credits are points earned after reaching a certain point with activity! Additional activity allows characters to regain items.

1 comment = 1 credit. Rewards are in multiples of ten ( minimum amount of comments to be submitted in a thread are 10!).

9. Are there opportunities for regains of items pertaining to sentimental value with regards to characters?

Yes! This and other items can be gained using credits.

10. I need to suddenly drop out of the game, is this possible?

That’s fine! Just alert us and we’ll be able to work something in! By keeping in contact with us when this happens it allows for us to be able to remove your character smoothly, which is much easier to handle than if someone just disappeared.

11. How do I contact the mods?

We have a feedback post that can be reached here, and we can either be contacted on our individual plurks, or on the mod account for the game!

12. What's with the NPCs? Can we interact with them?

Yes, you can! Some of the NPCs are played by mods, but others (the ones whose icons aren't uploaded to the mod journal) are "flavor" characters and free to be NPCed by players.

13. So, we have to make sock accounts? What should they be like?

As a general guideline, we would prefer the sock accounts to be brand new, with no icons or anything that can tie an account to a player or a character. The username should be pretty generic as well. When you are accepted to the game, you will be asked to link the account in the taken post, where comments will be screened.

14. Where do you get your images?

Google image search mostly, and so they are the property of their owners. A few have been edited to better match the mood we were going for. The exception is the sheep NPC, who was drawn by the lovely [plurk.com profile] deathdesu!
